Historical Context:

Point of View:

This picture is by Benson Lossing who was a historian who also would draw. From his point of view he saw that we were going through bad times in our country so we needed a change. We had to fight in order to win the Tyrants and have freedom because it is very hard living without freedom. He was living in America during that time as well so he knew what it was like and wanted to prove his point.

Audience:

The audience of this would be all the people in the world but mainly the Americans. All Americans and everyone should see how much troubles, battles, and hard things we have went through in order to gain freedom in America. This shows the Americans that it is possible for bad things in America to change if we all work on it. Also for the Americans back then that saw this image it was for them to realize that fights can be bad at the time but help them a lot later on.

Purpose

The purpose of this image is to show people now what it was like in America back then. They had to fight battles and in order to win freedom and other important things. The purpose that it has now is that it shows how much America has changed over time. Now we don't really have to fight any battles and we have freedom  which has the purpose to show Americans to be thankful for the people who helped us get our freedom.
